The End of Summer is Near!

I know that this sounds a little premature, but the end of summer is near. With school in our area starting in mid August, I find myself in a rush to make more summer memories.
As a working mom, I feel like I don't have as much time to spend with my kids. I am always searching for things to do in such limited spaces of time. Like most other parents I want my kids to have endless memories and positive experiences that I often stress about what more I can do for them. Then I remember.
Summer can be boring! Yes you are out of school, have a more open schedule to do whatever you want, but also plenty of unfilled time. When I was young I remember being excited for school to start because by the end of summer, I was sooooo bored.
That was how it was every summer. Despite my best efforts to ride my bike into town (small town girl), go to the community pool, catch movie matinees, walk around town, attend sleepovers. If every moment of the day was spent filled with my wants, I would have been one grumpy and spoiled child.
As a parent, I have decided to release myself from the guilt. Kids get bored. They play video games and run through the sprinkler. They have finished their summer reading and are tired of the heat. All of which is ok. Yes my kids play video games, but they also play instruments. They aren't athletes, but they are bakers. Let your kids be kids (which includes boredom). Let yourself be a parent and don't expect to be a saint.
Love You!
