Should I Homeschool?

My daughter has wanted me to home school for the last few years. I know that not having to go to school was the motive behind the request. Unfortunately I had to work outside of the home, so I really couldn’t swing it. Now that I work at home, I am revisiting the idea. I am not thinking that public schools are horrible or the teachers are stupid or anything like that. I do feel that with this particular child, the approach needs to be different. She is very creative and a hands on learner. Frankly, she is really excited to do it.

My fears

Am I smart enough to do this?

Will I screw up my child?

Will my child be behind my other peers?

Is this going to be a huge mistake?

My other children

I have two other children; they are a little older than my daughter. I have asked each of them if they would like to be homeschooled next year and both of them have respectfully declined.

How do I start?

I do feel a little incompetent and overwhelmed. But, after some research it seems to be the advice is all the same. Read. Read everything you can on homeschooling to understand children, learning styles and the kind of teacher you want to be.So I am.

I am starting out with the following books:

“Teach Your Own” The John Holt Book of Home Schooling

“A Different Kind of Teacher” by John Taylor Gotto

I will let you know how it goes and keep you updated on my home school journey. Off to see the Wizard.
